METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing gum from concrete usually depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a more forgiving consistency compared to a gooey and stringy mess. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper right under the gum. Next we move the scraper slowly beneath the gum and the whole piece should then peel right off the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove gum that is already black, or is already smashed down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we won’t use high pressure because that might harm the surface of the concrete!

Our crew never uses more pressure than necessary to clean commercial concrete. These surfaces can be damaged much easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our gum removal service.
